Lunatico New Year Imaging Contest 2022

The family have gone home, you’ve eaten all the Christmas treats you can manage and watched all of your favourite holiday films.  The skies are cloudy.  What to do?

Well, we’ve got the answer for those dull January days.  Lunatico has a new Instagram channel, but the problem is, we need some content and that’s where you come in.  We’re offering astro-imagers the chance to showcase their talents in our New Year contest.

We’ve got some brand new, never-before-been-processed data for you in the form of NGC 6960, The Western Veil.  We’ve prepared five data stacks in:  Red, Green, Blue and, of course, Ha and OIII, all taken using five minute subs from  a Moravian G4 16000 fitted to a PlaneWave CDK 14, operating unguided on a 10Micron GM 3000HPS mount, hosted in southern Spain.    The stacks are supplied in both 16 bit .tif and 32 bit .xisf formats, so everyone can try their hand at bettering the Windows 10 wallpaper image of this iconic deep sky object.

Judging the competition will be none other than our special guest:

Harry Page!

Harry will be a familiar name to PixInsight users, as his tutorials have helped to start countless journeys into the world of astro image processing.  If you haven’t done so already, check out Harry’s tutorials here

And don’t worry, you don’t have to be a PixInsight user to stand a chance.  Harry will only get to see the final result.  How you get there is up to you!

To enter the contest, simply email the final image in JPEG format  to andy@lunaticoastro.com together with any details that you would like to share about how you processed the image.

You have until Jan 31 to submit your images and the best examples will have pride of place on our Instagram page.  The winning image may even appear on our website!

The competition is open to everyone, not just Lunatico customers, so make sure you tell all your friends.
