What it measures

Seven sensors in your pocket

The PocketCW2 packs the full CloudWatcher sensor suite into a 71 × 71 × 27 mm enclosure: everything you need to know whether the sky is safe to observe.

Cloud detection

IR sensor reads sky temperature and determines cloud cover in real time.

Sky quality

Measures sky brightness in mpsas. Dichroic UV/IR filter for accurate readings.

Temperature & dew point

Ambient temperature and calculated dew point, essential for moisture risk assessment.

Humidity

Relative humidity percentage, monitoring conditions that affect seeing and optics.

Atmospheric pressure

Barometric pressure monitoring for weather trend analysis.

Wind detection

Detects wind presence—a crude measurement, but enough to flag windy conditions.

GPS

Built-in GPS for location-aware reporting and logging.

The sky quality reading is taken through a dichroic UV/IR filter—the same one used in the CloudWatcher. It passes around 97–98% of the light between roughly 400 and 730 nm and cuts off sharply on both sides, below 380 nm and above 740 nm, so the readings reflect what a camera sensor actually sees.
