The map above shows locations where Lunatico products are in active use. The density in Europe — particularly in Spain, the UK, France, Germany, and Italy — reflects our European roots and the strength of the club astronomy community there. But what the map also shows is genuine worldwide reach: installations in North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Africa, and beyond.
New Zealand — a special note
New Zealand has a particularly active community of Lunatico users, and it holds a special place in our story. It was a CloudWatcher in Christchurch, New Zealand — operated by Simon Lewis some 2000 km from the epicentre — that captured the atmospheric pressure wave from the Hunga Tonga volcanic eruption in January 2022, and later documented the passage of Cyclone Gabrielle hour by hour in February 2023. Our instruments, in the right hands, become accidental scientific instruments.
What global deployment teaches us
Having users across such different climates — from humid tropical environments to arid high-altitude deserts to the wet maritime conditions of the British Isles and New Zealand — drives product improvement in ways that a local user base never could. Calibration challenges in humid climates led to the K-factor optimisation tool. High-altitude installs drove improvements in the wind sensor housing. Remote sites without easy internet access shaped the SOLO's standalone operation mode.
The feedback loop from a worldwide community of serious observers is one of the most valuable assets Lunatico has — and one we take seriously in every product decision we make.
